A mother asked for help.
The system failed her.
So she picked up a camera.

About the Film

Dark Side of the Full Moon follows Maureen Fura's journey across the United States to understand how the healthcare system recognizes and responds to maternal mental health complications.

Through the voices of mothers, families, clinicians, advocates, and experts, the documentary examines the gaps that can exist between screening, diagnosis, referral, and treatment—and what happens to families when those systems fail to connect.

Why This Film Was Made

After the birth of her first son in 2008, Maureen Fura experienced severe postpartum depression and obsessive-compulsive symptoms. She knew she needed help and repeatedly sought it.

It took 190 days, 29 healthcare providers, two states and three counties before she finally received the care she needed.

After recovering, Maureen wanted to understand whether her experience was an anomaly—or whether mothers across the country were falling through the same gaps.

That question became Dark Side of the Full Moon.

Trigger Warning: Please do not watch the film if you are currently experiencing a perinatal mental health complication.

From Documentary to Action

The film documented the problem. Mammha was built to help close the gap.

Dark Side of the Full Moon revealed a recurring problem: recognizing that a mother is struggling isn't enough. Someone has to respond.

Years later, that belief became foundational to Mammha—connecting screening with real human outreach, care coordination, therapy, psychiatry, peer and group support, and continued follow-up.
